Oxford’s rebels and radicals tour

Oxford University is well known as a bastion of tradition and training ground for future Prime Ministers, but how much do you know about the city’s radical past and present?

On this walking tour you will hear about epic ‘town vs gown’ riots, fiercely independent medieval women, determined but doomed Levellers, acid-sprinkling Suffragettes and the locals who kicked fascists out of the city for good.

From Oscar Wilde to Rhodes Must Fall, the Radical Oxford tour tells the fascinating and inspiring stories of those who have pushed back against power, privilege, discrimination and inequality throughout Oxford’s thousand-year history.

What people are saying about it:

I've lived in Oxford for 23+ years. This is one of the best walking tours I've done (and I've done loads, since it's a great way to enjoy the city with visitors). This tour offers a refreshing twist on the history of this great city AND brings it bang up-to-date with the times we're living in. It's a great tour *and* an important one. Five stars.” - Scott

Jess is quite splendid. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable and humorous. Her Rebels and Radicals tour was a revelation even to those of us who have lived in Oxford for decades.“ - Carolyn

“Jess put together a really powerful, fascinating and thought-provoking tour of Oxford's radical history for our group. It took in everything from the radical changes that emerged from centuries' old bar brawls to the role of some Oxford alumni in driving societal progress to some of its more unedifying contributions to the colonisation of India and Africa.  An honest, informative and much-needed look at some of the untold stories that your average Oxford tour guide simply doesn't cover. Jess is a born storyteller and her passion and depth of knowledge about Oxford's history brought all of these episodes to life in a lively and engaging way. Absolutely brilliant, thank you!”
