My favourite things in the current Magna Carta exhibition in the @bodleianlibraries are not the ancient legal documents themselves (though those are fascinating to see) but the giant seals on them of two medieval kings - Henry III 👑 and Edward I 👑. There’s something about seeing their likenesses on these official seals of approval that brings to life Magna Carta’s supreme importance. Leaders shouldn’t have unconstrained power to do whatever they like, should they?! At @cardiff_castle I was excited to see this mural of Empress Matilda’s famous escape from @oxfordcastle in 1142, dressed in white to camouflage against the snow and ice as she snuck past her cousin Stephen’s besieging troops.
